Cruise Industry
ERD has extensively worked on a variety of products in over 100 different cruise ships. From the propulsion systems to the onboard HVAC room controls and even the kitchen with industrial sized cookers, we have worked on all the main systems found on a ship.
A modern cruise ship has all the main aspects of a city. From a robust shopping area to full course dining and entertainment areas along with accommodations for thousands of people in their own comfortable rooms all the necessary amenities. To handle this city below decks is a structure built to move the needed goods and services effortlessly throughout the ship without any way for the guests to ever notice what is happening. The kitchens are filled with giant sized cooking equipment such as the Alto Shaam rotisseries cookers which routinely require a rebuild on the control board.
The laundry system must wash thousands of items daily and do it within a very tight working area. This system alone typically takes up several internal decks and is a marvel of coordination, especially when the ship is turning over for a new group of passengers and everything has to be washed. We have worked on these systems as they are industrial grade washers and driers and have large capacities for cleaning.
The ships also have embedded controls which are a part of the shipboard automation. These shipboard controls have nodes and controls throughout the decks. This includes controlling valves and fans for the heating and cooling systems along with things such as door controls in the event of flooding or an accident.
